Tell us about your role at Clever Ghost

Being a part of Clever Ghost has allowed me to contribute to a wide range of projects, mainly branding, signage, in-store POS, and packaging. As an intern, my top priority was to learn, and I was given space to grow through longer deadlines and meaningful feedback.

How have you found your time at Clever Ghost?

I have loved every minute of it. I felt at so much ease as soon as I entered the studio. This year has felt too short, and I feel like a completely different person in the best way possible. I have learnt so much from each person in the studio with design and everyone’s niche interests, so thanks guys for shaping me into a better woman!

What are the benefits of being on a placement?

I know it's cliché to say, but you really do learn things you wouldn’t at university. A placement opportunity would definitely make you more professionally ready for after university life. I honestly don’t know how I would’ve jumped into a job after university if it weren’t for placement. I now feel ready for any opportunity that comes my way.

What are the best & worst things about your placement?

The worst thing is definitely having to leave at the end of the year! The best has been spending most of my week with my lovely peers. I feel really lucky to have 4 people now who make saying goodbye so hard. Also, I need to mention that gorgeous dog. Having Chewie in the studio has been absolute bliss (apart from when the postman comes).

Any favourite projects?

Quite early on in my placement, I had the opportunity to work on a nursery rebrand called Jolly Jesters in Dromore. This project really unlocked a more creative side of me and challenged me to design for a much younger audience than I was used to. I really loved researching and developing the brand into something playful and modern.

How have your skills developed?

Over the course of the year, I’ve developed both creatively and professionally. I’ve improved my technical skills, gained more confidence in presenting ideas, and learned how to work with proper deadlines, briefs, and brand guidelines. I gained a deeper understanding of how a small but busy studio operates, from creative direction to client communication and strategy.

Any advice for students thinking about doing a placement?

Pester your future boss until you get a job! In all seriousness, if there is a company you really want to work for, go for it, even if they aren’t advertising. You never know, they could need you as much as you need them. Show studios exactly why they should hire you through your talent and personality.

What does the next chapter hold in store?

As well as heading back to university and graduating in June, I haven’t moved too far from the studio as I’ve got a wee part-time gig at the café down the road (you are never getting rid of me). I hope to have a really good final year and continue on with the society. Hopefully, we have a few exciting things coming up!
